A Personal Leap into the Unknown
I recently made a major life change:
I moved from the Netherlands to Spain.
It was a personal decision, but one that echoes the professional transformations I support as a coach and consultant for leaders and teams. Only this time, I was the one stepping into uncertainty.
A Dream Deferred — Until Now
For years, I’d written down “spend winters in Spain” as a dream.
I craved more outdoor living, a different pace, the Spanish rhythm of life.
But my house in the Netherlands was more than a place — it was part of my identity. Safe. Familiar. Mine.
That changed during a casual conversation with a friend. As we talked about life in Spain, I suddenly imagined letting go of my home.
And instead of fear, I felt calm.
That’s when I knew: holding on to safety was keeping me from something deeper I truly wanted.
When Courage Means Acting Without All the Answers
Soon came the practical questions:
“Where will you live?”
“What about work?”
My honest answer:
“I don’t know yet. I’ll figure it out.”
That’s what courage looks like to me:
Courage = Fear + Action
No, it hasn’t been perfect.
Because wherever you go, you bring yourself with you.
My new surroundings reflect my strengths and my blind spots. They both support and challenge me.
